About Us

We are a mission organization with the aim to minister the gospel of the grace of God through a variety of means, mainly through literature. Hence our name is Grace Literature and Ministry (GLEAM), also known in the Indonesian language as Yayasan Pelayanan Literatur Anugerah (PELITA).

History in brief:

God, our merciful Creator, called several Christian believers to start this ministry, Yayasan Pelayanan Literatur Anugerah (PELITA), in Jakarta. It was incorporated by the Notary Public, Mr. N. R. Makahanap, on October 19, 1984, and renewed with incorporation No.41 on January 29, 1988. Yayasan PELITA was registered with the Department of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia No.: F/KEP/1943/1989.

In their obedience to God’s calling, the above-mentioned believers had been serving as the members of the National Board of Executives. They are Frans P. Tamarol (Director), Mangaranap Pandjaitan (Vice Director), Tumpal Aritonang (Secretary), and Ngikut Sinulinga (Treasurer). Many fellow believers have supported this ministry since its inception; some of them are still actively helping the work as donors, members of the editorial board or correspondents of PESAN magazine, or coordinators of Pelita Ministry in different regions in Indonesia.

On May 14, 2010, Yayasan PELITA had added three new members to its National Board: Johan A Sumampouw, Jerry H. M. Sumanti, and Hertok H. Lantemona. With these new board members plus all regional Pelita Ministry coordinators, PESAN Editorial Board, and correspondents, Yayasan PELITA had been used more effectively in the hands of the Lord.

On May 12, 2012, Yayasan PELITA added one new member to its board, Mrs. Jultje Permana-Kawengian, to serve as Vice Treasurer. At that time, Dr. Ngikut Sinulinga, the Treasurer, was hospitalized due to her longtime illness; now, she is with the Lord as she passed away on September 9, 2012. On one hand, Yayasan PELITA (GLEAM) had lost one of its committed board members who served the Lord so fervently and faithfully. But on the other hand, we praise God and thank Him for the life Dr. Sinulinga dedicated to the ministry of the gospel of the grace of God. The office of Treasurer was then trusted to Mr. Hertok Lantemona. Also, in the board meeting conducted on September 17, 2013, Dr. Henri Turangan, MM was added to serve as Vice Secretary.

Mr. Tumpal Aritonang, our faithful and very resolute Secretary, passed away on August 12, 2018. This was another lost to Yayasan Pelita, and we knew that this lost was felt even more by the family. Yet we also thank God for the life Mr. Aritonang lived and dedicated to the work of the Lord. For 34 years he was a driving force both in organization and in ministry of the gospel of the grace of God, especially in his position as Editor in Chief of PESAN Editorial Board. Now that he is in heaven with the Lord, Dr. Henri Turangan, Vice Secretary had to manage all Pelita’s administrative responsibilities, while Mr. Alexander Wauran, Deputy Editor in Chief had to take over all Pesan’s editorial responsibilities until 2019 Pelita Meeting.

On June 15, 2019, Pelita Meeting was conducted in Jakarta. The results of this meeting were: (1) A new composition and personnel of the Board of Executives; (2) The establishment of a Board of Trustees; and (3) A position of an Advisor; and (4) A possibility of the establishment of Regional Boards in different provinces which PELITA has its ministries. So, starting on June 15, 2019, the Board of Executives consists of: Henri J. Turangan (Director). Alexander Wauran (Vice Director), Kharis H. Pandjaitan (Secretary), Timoti Rompas (Vice Secretary), Jultje Permana-Kawengian (Treasurer), Alexander J. T. A. Gerung (Board Member), and Alexander Wonte (Board Member).

The Board of Trustees consists of: Mangaranap Pandjaitan (Chairman), Johan A. Sumampouw (Vice Chairman), and Jerry H. M. Sumanti (Secretary). Lastly, this Pelita meeting also appointed Frans P. Tamarol, the former Director, as the Advisor.

“To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever, Amen” (Roman 16:27 KJV).

Goal:

To reach the lost with the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ and to help the believers to grow in faith and commitment to serve the Lord.

Mission Statement:

With the power of the Holy Spirit, we are to carry on God’s commission in this dispensation of Grace to proclaim the gospel of the grace of God in Jesus Christ through literature and other means and methods available, to help believers to grow strong in faith by nurturing and teaching them the word of God, and to motivate God’s people to love, worship, and serve the Lord for the praise of His glory.

Doctrinal Statement in brief:

Along with all believers, we confess the Apostle’s Creed and hold on to the sound biblical truths which are summarized as follows:

  1. The Bible is the word of God, verbally and plenary inspired, inerrant, and infallible in its original (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)
  2.  God is one who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13:13)
  3.  Total depravity of all mankind (Roman 3:10, 23)
  4.  Condemnation for those who reject Jesus Christ (John 3:36; 8:24)
  5.  Salvation by the grace of God and redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ for those who, by faith, accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior apart from any human merit whatsoever (Roman 3:24-25; Eph. 2:8-9)
  6. Eternal security of the believers (John 10:28-29; Roman 8:1; 1 Cor. 3:11-14)
  7.  Bodily resurrection and the rapture of the church—the body of Christ, followed by the last events taught by the Lord to His disciples, namely great tribulation, the millennial Kingdom of Christ on earth, the white throne, and, finally, the new earth and new heavens under God’s eternal kingdom and power and glory (1 Thess. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:35-49; Jeremiah 30:7; Dan. 9:24-27; 1 Thess. 5:1-11; Matt. 24; Rev. 6-19; Rev. 20:1-6, 11-15; Rev. 21-22 ).

Activities:

  1.  Publishing and distributing Christian literatures
  2.  Conducting seminars, training, consultation, Christian counseling, and guidance
  3.  Aiding church ministries, social needs, educational programs, and human resource development through research and scholar referral service
